Orange Paperie October Challenge

Good afternoon,

Finally had the chance to finish my attempt at the Orange Paperie challenge

http://orangepaperieandco.blogspot.com.au/2013/10/october-challenge-black-white-with_4.html

October challenge was Black and White with a Splash of Colour.

Had the day off today to finish my layout, I started last weekend.

I was thinking of turquoise as my splash of colour however I fell into the trap of using my favourite colour, teal.  I love it and feel it keeps my layout neutral rather than zingy.  I want the photo to be the focus!

Here it is followed by a few close ups.  I have also experimented with a new technique of watercolour around the edges of all my pattern papers, also used lots of texture plus crackle medium from Craft Queen.

Thanks for popping in

Kaisercraft Saturday Sketch September #4

Good Afternoon People,

I am cutting it fine but would like to upload my attempt at the most recent Kaisercraft Saturday Sketch #4 for September.

Here is the link to the Kaisercraft blog

I have used the sketch in at a different angle so I have uploaded it to show you the way I have looked at it.

Here is my attempt at this sketch...

I have used the technologic collection, with PP's Gigabyte and Delete.  Also used the cogs wooden flourishes from Kaisercrat

My title is from Dr Seuss, saying TODAY was good TODAY was fun, TOMORROW is another one!

I have used ribbon and metal embellishments.

Once again I have had a fabulous time on this Kaisercraft Sketch, I have enjoyed every sketch this month using up some fab photos of my gorgeous nephews.

Have a great week guys
Thanks for taking a peek.

Kaisercraft Saturday Sketch September Wk 3

I have spent yesterday and today on my attempt for Kaisercraft's Saturday Sketch for week 3.
I have attached the sketch to work from and attached my attempt layout.
My layout uses Kaisercraft's Save the date range.
Pp's include Streamers, Burst, and Milestone. I have also used the Save the date alphas.
I think these papers suit the photo of my nephews first birthday perfectly. They are bright and yet retro. Great designs from Kaisercraft!
Hope you like it.
Thanks for taking a peek!

Kaisercraft Saturday Sketch September #2

Good Morning Folks

This weekend I have worked on another one of the great Kasiercraft Saturday sketches,  I am really enjoying using these sketches to create really bright funky pages and loving my finished product.

Here is the link to the 2nd September Saturday Sketch

Here is the sketch...

And this is my version....

With a few close ups,

I have use papers and tags from the Blast Off Paperpad

My title is a quote from Lightning McQueen as my nephew is on his new LMQ bike.

I have used Kaisercraft's Blast Off PP's including Orbit, Outer Space, and Spaceship.
The Paper Pad provided tags and pp's for me to punch out all the stars.
I have also used Kaiser's Basic Cardstock Tomato, to add a bit of texture amongst the patterned papers.
The title is made from Kaiser's chipboard Alphas.

I have used buttons and navy tiny twine to connect the embellishments

Thank you for popping in to take a look.

Orange Paperie Challenge - September

Good Evening Folks,

I have used my day off today to focus on the Orange Paperie Challenge for September set by the Marvelous Mary Bennetts

Pop across and take a look, it's a challenge based on a mood board.  I normally try to relate my layout to the mood board quite literally however this time I have thought outside the box and taken only an element from the image.

Here is the mood board below...

And here is my layout...

Hopefully you can see my inspiration here...

I wanted to use a pie chart to document a day in the life of my 4 yr old nephew so here is my title

And I could have focused on daily tasks of a 4 yr old however I chose to use verbs about learning and discovery for a 4 yr old.

I came across a saying last minute and chose to hand write it in the corner because I believe my brother and sister-in-law are nuturing two perfect little boys, here is the saying below...

I hope you enjoy this layout which could be considered a different interpretation of Mary's mood board.

Thanks for coming over for a peek

I have been watching the Cardabilities Blog for sometime and have been building the courage to attempt one of the challenges.  The quality of cards from everyone are so good.  Anyway here is the blog below for you to have a look

and here is my card and the sketch under that.

I have used a Kaisercraft range of Christmas papers from last year, called Believe.
The chippy flourishes are from Scrapmatts.

This is the sketch.

I have had a creative afternoon at home and here are my other creations, thought you'd like to have a look.

Thanks for having a peek!

Week 3 with Mary B

Hello Folks,

I thought I'd use some of my spare time to show you Week 3 with Mary B at Marally Craft!
We are having such a fabulous time with her classes that I am falling behind with documenting the journey.

Mary's layout is above and mine below

It's really interesting to see the differences and yet similarities between them.

Triple S over at Orange Paperie

Good morning folks

Sunday morning here and it's warmer this morning than it has been over the last couple of days, no heavy frost to see this morning, thank god.

I am uploading my take on the Triple S challenge for July over at Orange Paperie.

The triple S stands for stamping, stitching and stencilling.

I feel I am running a bit behind this month and have pushed myself to squeeze this one in.  Not enough days off in a week to scrap.

Anyway here are the pictures of my rushed page.

I have used texture paste through the centre of the page with a chevron stencil changing the direction at the centre of the page, knowing I can cover the messy blobs with the photo. I have used washi tape, stitching and plasterers tape in the corners, I also smudged some more texture paste over to add a touch of white. Then I stamped using a row of stars over the dry texture paste. It came out quite bold so I stamped again lightly across the top and bottom to frame the page.

The canvas letters were hot pink to start with so they were inked black, you can still see hints of pink in this picture.  I went with monochromatic on this layout but if I had more stash and time I think I would have added one single colour in places to zing.  Like yellow, red or lime green.

I might do that at a later date.

Anyway I am off to get ready and make the house tidy for our sunday lunch guests of my OH's mum and brother.

Bye xxx

Sunday 9 June 2013

These boys are out of this world!

Hey Ladies,

Just here, uploading my entry to Orange Paperie for June's challenge set by Jo

Tags, Tabs & Texture

My layout uses the NEW Blast off Range from Kaisercraft.

I've chosen a set of photos of my nephews enjoying a playground in the Gibralter and thought they look like they are sat on planets.

I am sorry the photo quality is poor but the weather today is typically wintry and the light is appalling.

I have used one main tag as my title, using the technique I learnt from the creative jumpstart yesterday, I used a blending tool, inks and bubble templates, to make it look quite planet like.  I have used lime twine to add another texture to the title.

I have used chipboard tabs and run them through my cuttlebugs to add different textures.  I have applied inks and embossing powder to give them a shine.

This was a fun layout with great bright colours for my two gorgeous nephews.
The pp's are perfect for such a fab challenge.

Hope you've had a good long weekend

The next installment...

Hopefully, you already know what mission I have chosen is, if not, the short of it is showing my scrapbooking development as a series of blogs to show you what I achieve in Mary Bennett's (http://mbennetts.blogspot.com.au/) scrapbooking class at Marally Craft.

So I have covered week 1 already, so the 24th of November 2012, was our next class.

Mary's Miss You layout was using the Periwinkle pattern papers from Kaisercraft.

Here it is

Mary created here, a lovely layout of her father, with the title Miss You, adding blue to the page to sit well with the photo, and sewing around the edges of the photo to show us another technique used in recent scrapbooking.

I chose a photo of my nephew, which unfortunately couldn't be cut into a circle and as I liked the turquoise touches on the top PP, I chose to us the turquoise in my background paper.

Mary, showed us how to distress the edges of our photo frames and how to use other media to layer with like muslin and canvas.
Below is the torn edage with embellishments that we have used to add a point of difference to the page, you can also see the stamping better in the photo below.

Because of the beautiful photo I wanted to keep the layout simple to not attract the eye anywhere but the photo and without knowing it I created quite a fashionable layout with 'White Space'.

Believe me this was without intention. :)

Thank you Mary.

See you soon folks.

It's time to catch up

Hello Blogland,

I am going to try this time to keep up with posting regularly, mainly because I enjoy reading so many of the blogs I find through friends so hopefully you'll be able to catch mine.

Catch up time is to start blogging about the scrapbooking class at Marally Craft, taught by the Marvelous Mary Bennetts (http://mbennetts.blogspot.com.au/).  So if you follow Mary you might find my next few blogs interesting because I want to take you through each class so track my own development and give you an insight to what a lovely class it is to be a part of.
Just in case you are ever travelling through Orange NSW, you could take part one day.

Ok, so I would like to travel all the way back to our first class on the 10th November 2012...

Mary's layout for us was made using Butterfly Kisses from Kaisercraft, as we are quite limited at Marally Craft to mostly Kaiser products so all future layouts will be more than likely to be Kaisercraft.

I think it is such a good starting point for a class, we were all beginners and the layering was perfect to set us on our scrapbooking journey.  We learnt to ink the edges of the layers to soften them, we also used a corner punch to round the corners for an even softer look.

Here is my layout from the day.  Because Butterfly Kisses was a little too bold for the photo I wanted to use I chose to branch out and use Save the Date pattern papers also from Kaisercraft.

Mary, showed us how to create bunting with cricles of pattern paper and bakers twine

In the Save the Date collection the sticker sheet has perfectly co-ordinated pin wheels so I chose to use these as my embellishments.
I had a fantastic day and it shows with me holding up the nearly finished page below.

Thank you Mary!
Hope you can see my simple layout is near to Mary's more detailed layout.

See you soon!

Saturday 6 April 2013

where life begins and love never ends...

Hello again,

Jumping back in to the Orange Paperie & Co. Challenge for April.

Loved the challenge set by Mary this month so had to get on it like Sonic.

I made sure when I finished work yesterday that I had all the ingredients for the image I had in my head for this layout, mostly inspired by the media provided for the challenge.

Here is the image that was provided...

and definitely inspired....

other requirements of this challenge were stamping and punching.

I have taken the media quite literally and when I saw the pp that I have used I knew it was perfect because it has a single chair and almost a wallpaper background.

I have based my layout on family and was very much inspired by Annette Edmonds and her February page for Orange paperie where she had used lots of pictures of her loved ones and friends.  So I knew what I wanted to do when I saw the picture above.

So here is my layout for the April Challenge on http://orangepaperieandco.blogspot.com.au/

I hope you can make out all the pictures.  I have made a gallery.  A wall of pictures.  Of my family.  I have used the new 'Remember Me' range which is appropriate  for the two loved ones, I like to remember from my past, I have used poppies on their picture frames to symbolise they are no longer with us.

I have stamped frames around my gorgeous nephews and inked edges of the card frames I have made.  Unfortunately there is no punching used as the only punches, I own are a kangaroo and a map of Australia and didn't think them suitable on this very personal layout.

In the corner I have used a scan of a silhouette that was made of me at my brother's wedding as I wanted this layout to be about my family and not me.

All the people on this layout are considered my family even though they may not be by blood and I was debating on using a saying I found which says

"Family isn't always blood.
It's the people in your life who want you in theirs,
the ones who accept you for who you are,
the ones who would do anything to see you smile
and who love you no matter what."

but I felt it would ruin the simplicity and bold message that the title displays.
It only matters that I call them my family because they truly are.

Hope you like this insight and my attempt at this challenge.

Thanks
Bec.

Orange Paperie March Challenge

Another challenge from Orange Paperie has caught my attention.
So here is my attempt.

Hexies and Stamping!
yeah!

I have used the wooden flourish hexagons to add a 3D effect down the left hand side, covering them with paper and stamping.
Also adding two metal cogs from a selection I got recently.

Using the wooden flourishes as a template I cut some paper hexies to slip in under the edge of the photo (if you look closely there is some stamping on a couple of those).
I have used a burnt orange card to frame the picture to touch on colours in the photo and the background pp.

I have stamped on the journal tag before writing about the little man and location.
I have also stamped on an envelope, opening to sides to let the journal tag slip in.  I have sliced to holes for the corners of the tag to poke through.  The envelope is raised up with foam pads to give the 3D effect again.

The stamps I have used are play & imagination orientated, with the cogs and robots.
The words used in the round button stamp are - play, discover, learn, explore, imagine, grow.

Hope you girls like it.

Happy Scrapping

Tried my hand at Embroidery & quite enjoy it!

Happy New Year to everyone.

Ok, so I thought I would show the next craft that I tried my hand at when I came to Oz.

My days off from work used to include Wednesdays so wanting to get out and socialise, I decided to join the Embroidery class run by my work.

After learning all the stitches in my first class, I needed a project so my teacher suggested a pin cushion to practise all sorts of the stitches I had learnt.

After finishing the pin cushion I went onto a very challenging project taking on The Street Market from the French Collection Quilt.  The pattern came through the post because it was an ideal present for the mother-in-law who holds a stall at the Orange Farmers markets.
So I jumped right in...

Above - The Original
Below - My end result

As you can see I adapted the original to add some more detail and some veg take applied to the mother in law.  When I had finished I asked my Embroidery teacher for advice on how to finish the embroidery. Cushion? Framed behind glass? and then she suggested a wall hanging.  We chose fabrics together to compliment the piece.

After the present was finished and gifted.  I wanted to do some simple things.
A few little Christmas embroideries.  Yet to be framed or mounted but here they are for next  Christmas.  Little presents for people.

Current project for the New Year 2013
"Home is where the Heart is."
I wonder how long it will take...

Above - the pattern
Below - the start

Wish me luck guys.

Have a good & creative 2013!
